Chapter 391 That Can't Be

Ever since Xiang Ning had used Comprehension to understand a third of Dong Qianyi and Chen Tianhua’s knowledge, he’d gained a deeper understanding of the theories of dimensional and spatial technology, as well as ways of combining it with the engine. He finally understood why both his master and Chen Tianhua were known as the Twelve Great Prodigies and heavily protected by the country. He even thought that they were treasures of the Earth!

He had made the mistake of telling them extremely valuable information that he combined from the system and the information that he’d learned from them. Since then, he had more or less been held back by both his master and Chen Tianhua, as if they had found a new continent. They sought him day and night to try and determine how much he knew. While he was nowhere near them, it was close enough.

And that was the exact reason why they were astonished. They had finally found a hint of the correct direction in the large and confusing field of dimensional technology and the development of dimensional travel technology. They were excited! Ever since the dimensional ring project had been successfully completed, the Smith Saint project had started.

Xiang Ning was one of the three people that had been carefully selected. Naturally, he was kept beside Dong Qianyi to learn various knowledge and techniques. They estimated that it would take him five years to learn about it, but to think that he had already learned a third of it in just a short period of time! If Xiang Ning wasn’t human, or if he wasn’t the only one on Earth, or even if he wasn’t the student of Dong Qianyi, he would have been kidnapped and examined.

Xiang Ning was reluctant but soon entered the zone as soon as the research started. He was thinking of using Comprehension again to learn another third of Dong Qianyi’s knowledge, since he had around five hundred thousand Fury Points. But he decided against it as the mission he had been given was too dangerous. He needed to be fully prepared. He only had two recovery potions, and that gave him anxiety.

The engine was just one small step away from completion. Most of the time they were double-checking whether each section of the engine was working correctly or not. A massive engine used for dimensional travel wasn’t to be trifled with.

Xiang Ning finally left the lab at night, feeling like his body had been completely sucked dry. If it weren’t for how tired he looked, the two prodigies would never have stopped.

The other researchers were also enjoying their precious break time. Only a few of them were still doing experiments. All of them smiled as they saw Xiang Ning walk out.

Look at his feeble body. They all thought the same thing as they looked at their tired, but still energetic bodies even after they had been working for a day. They all patted themselves on their backs and regarded themselves as the central pillars of the scientific realm. Youngsters are just unreliable. Still, they were even more curious about who Xiang Ning was. How could he enter Chen Tianhua’s room for so long?

After Xiang Ning left, Alia was just about to return to the lab to sort out the documents before some of the more curious researchers asked her about him.

“Huh? Don’t you know him?”

“Isn’t he just a kid? Should we know him?” one of the younger researchers jeered.

The other researchers remained silent, but secretly agreed. They usually recognized people based on their publications, their credibility, and whatever conferences they had participated in. Only then they would remember the person. Anyone other than that was no more than a passerby to them.

“Hmm… it’s natural that you don’t recognize him, since his pictures have been restricted on the internet. You should know his name, though.” Alia gave them a sly smile.

Just as she was about to spill the beans, the door to Chen Tianhua’s lab opened up and Dong Qianyi peeked out. “Alia, has Xiang Ning left? If he hasn’t, let him know that he should come again tomorrow. We’re a bit tired and would appreciate it if he could come and do some of the examinations on the engine.”

“Dong Qianyi, he left.” Alia was speechless. Xiang Ning was still a patient, wasn’t it bad manners to exploit him like this?

“Oh, then let me just send him a message.” Dong Qianyi returned back to the lab.

The lab immediately fell silent. It was the younger researcher who broke the silence. “Xia… Xiang… Xiang Ning?! The student of Dong Qianyi, to whom even Chen Tianhua passed on some of his knowledge on the development of the engine?! The man that participated in the dimensional ring project?!”

Most of the researchers further away hadn’t realized why that young man was so important to Dong Qianyi. The only thing they knew was that Dong Qianyi and Chen Tianhua were both working together to invent an engine that could undergo spatial leap, a technology that would usher in a new era. How could they let such a young man run the tests?

Only after hearing the researchers closest to Alia did they realize that the young man was Xiang Ning, the one that had participated in the creation of the dimensional ring. Some of the higher-ranking researchers with a broader connection knew that Xiang Ning was even the one responsible for shortening the time needed to finish the project.

Xiang Ning even explained the method to forge it! In the end, theories were useless if there was no way to emulate them in real life. One could talk on and on, but if they couldn’t bring their theories into reality, there was no worth in them.

All of them felt that they were worthless, since Xiang Ning was able to achieve what they had not been able to do even after they had spent so much of their time researching. Did Xiang Ning start researching in his mother’s womb?!

The lab fell silent as Alia quickly left when she sensed something was off.

One of the researchers threw away his half-eaten meal and started working again. If someone could achieve something incredible while they were so young, it must be hard work! It must be! Look at his haggard body after working!

Xiang Ning’s weakened body indicated that the work volume was so large that he was almost exhausted after working a little less than ten hours. As for the researchers? They were already there two hours before Xiang Ning had arrived, but they still felt spirited. How could that be? Were they not working hard enough? They needed to learn from Xiang Ning.

What did they lack? All of them were extremely intelligent people, to be able to stay here in one of the most sophisticated and prestigious labs on the planet. Soon, more and more researchers put down whatever they were doing and started working again. Their efficiency had increased several times.
