Chapter 376 The Broken Blade Knight Emerges

One move from the Blizzard Fox had been enough to kill an entire squad of elite fighters. That was a level of power they couldn’t take. A tier six beast would at least leave them with a tiny shred of hope, which was enough for them to risk their lives, but this was completely different. Anyone challenging it would just be wasting their lives. It was hopeless.

“Fall back! Formation dismissed! Activate the protective energy shields!”

“But what about them?”

“Hurry! We can’t do anything about them!”

The fox watched the panicking humans as it laughed in delight. Every time it leaped, a squad would be eliminated. They were all important fighters of the fortress, and those sitting in the command center felt their hearts bleed.

“All fighters at the front are ordered to immediately fall back, do not act brashly! Activate the fortress’ long-range cannons, clear a path for them! Is Sect Master Qiu here yet?”

The commander immediately issued various commands. The appearance of a Beast King on the battlefield wasn’t something the common martial artists could overcome; they wouldn’t even be able to defend themselves.

But the sect master they spoke of, Sect Master Qiu, was currently in a recovery capsule.

“Sect Master Qiu, the dose is too high, your body won’t be able to handle it.”

“Hurry, we don’t have time!” urged Sect Master Qiu. He had previously sustained severe injuries in various battles, and had even been poisoned by another Beast King. It was a tricky situation, but his body would have been able to dispel it given enough time. Yet urgent times require extreme solutions.

At the front, Wu Rui and the rest cleared a path for themselves to escape with great difficulty. They had run barely a few steps when the tier five beast they’d previously fought returned, blocking them.

“What the fuck, how dare you come back!” Wu Rui roared with rage. But due to the few-seconds-long delay, more than ten beasts surrounded them once more, much to the alarm of Fang Rou and the rest of the squad.

“We have no choice—KILL!” Wu Rui unleashed a roar and a burst of energy flowed through him as his cultivation was elevated to tier five, one-star. The Wu family’s breathing technique made him more powerful the longer he was in battle. Especially now, when he was in a hopeless situation, it boosted his abilities to extraordinary levels!

......

Meanwhile, Xiang Ning and the rest had already entered the external compound of Fortress One, but it wasn’t easy to enter the main hall.

“No, you guys can’t enter.” They were blocked by two soldiers.

“What? The battle’s still ongoing, isn’t it? We’re here to help, let us in!” Chu Long could hear the cannons. Although he hadn’t participated in a war yet, he knew that when the fortress was forced to fire the cannons like this, they weren’t in an excellent situation.

Xiang Ning frowned, sensing a soul-crushing, intimidating source of power through his Combat Instinct. He had never felt anything like it from a beast—compared to what he was feeling now, the Simian Sage would be a child.

Under such circumstances, any idiot would know that the fortress only had their last reserves inside, perhaps barely a hundred martial artists. Ninety percent of its fighters would have already been dispatched; Fang Rou and the rest must be out there, too.

“I’m sorry, those are my orders,” said the soldier.

Chu Long sighed in frustration. “What’s the commander thinking? We’re here to help, why won’t they let us?” In reality, it was for their own good. Every martial artist that came from the city must stay inside for a day, because war was no child’s game and the fortress was responsible for their valuable lives. Every martial artist there was at least tier two, four-star, and the majority was over tier three. What if they died merely because they hadn’t adapted to the place yet? That would be an unnecessary, tragic loss.

“I’m begging you, my child’s father is inside, we want to go see him.” The lady also had a bad feeling and started begging.

The soldiers remained expressionless. Xiang Ning frowned and stepped forward, and the two soldiers raised their weapons at him. “Brother, it’s an order. It’s also for your own good.”

Xiang Ning shook his head, taking a box out of his dimensional ring and tossing it at them. One of them doubtfully took the box. It looked familiar, but when he opened it….

The glittering badge of a broken sword lay quietly inside.

“Broken… Broken Blade Knight!” His voice was trembling as he rubbed his eyes and looked at Xiang Ning. He… he was too young for this. But the soldier knew what it meant. The suspicion that it could be a fake momentarily flashed in his mind, but was quickly dismissed. He tried to recall if there were any recent awards, as it was a very rare medal that was only given to a few people per year, or even none.

Suddenly, a figure from the depths of his mind appeared. He shouldn’t be.…

The soldier looked at his stunned comrade, then heard about a broken something and leaned forward to see. “What’s the matter? Holy shit!”

He was stunned, too.

There were more than thirty martial artists who had arrived to help, and all of them were just as stunned. Xiang Ning hadn’t expected a reaction like that, so he just stood there scratching his head. Chu Long asked him, “What did you show them? You aren’t the son of some military bigshot, are you?”

“Tsk, tsk. I couldn’t tell! The progeny of a bigshot! That explains why you have a bioweapon,” remarked Long Xiaoqi, crossing her arms.

But what happened next shocked them.

The two soldiers saluted Xiang Ning, then said, “We need to report this to the commander, please wait a moment!” There was a fire in their eyes as they carefully closed the box, then respectfully handed it back to Xiang Ning.

“What’s going on?” Chu Long was stunned.

“What did you show them?” Long Xiaoqi curiously asked.

Xiang Ning scratched his head and gave them the box. “I showed them this... I think it’ll be useful?”

Chu Long wanted to take it, but Long Xiaoqi snatched it away while the rest of the fighters looked at them.

She opened it. “Oh? A medal? I didn’t know you made some great contribution, it’s beautiful.”

She picked it up and turned it in her hand as Chu Long’s body trembled. “Broken! Broken! Broken! Broken Blade Knight!”

His shout scared Long Xiaoqi, who tossed it into the air in surprise. Chu Long hurriedly caught it, then carefully held it in his hand as if he was deeply afraid something would happen to it.

Confused, she asked, “What? What Broken Blade Knight? Is that some prestigious title?” She didn’t understand, but looking around, some of the faces were equally confused, some were in disbelief, and some looked at Xiang Ning with a fire in their eyes that was intense enough to give her goosebumps.
