Chapter 373 Black Box

The group of martial artists gathered at the exits on both sides of their respective carriages.

“Tsk, I can’t believe this is happening to me.”

“Twenty minutes, right? Thank goodness there’s only one Thunderclap Mastiff. There’s quite a few of us, we should be able to hold it off.”

The martial artists chatted among themselves. They had all voluntarily stepped up without reminders; that was just the duty of a martial artist.

“All spiritual cultivators and martial artists with weapons, please head to the last carriage.”

It was a simple instruction but they all knew what was happening. The last carriage contained all of the weapons owned by the martial artists and spiritual cultivators. If they wanted to fight, they naturally required weapons. They couldn’t bring them into the carriages after going through security in the station.

Xiang Ning and the crowd went toward the last carriage. Since there were many things currently stored in his dimensional ring, his Devourer wouldn’t fit.

There were more people than he expected—more than a hundred. The strongest was no higher than tier five, the weakest only tier two. But anyone who stepped forward deserved respect.

Xiang Ning’s carriage was near the front. Chu Long and Long Xiaoqi retrieved their weapons before him. Like Xiang Ning, Chu Long used a longsword, but it was made of a different material.

“What do you think? Are you able to tell what it’s made of?”

“Meteorite ore. You’ll even be able to kill a tier six beast with that sword, brother Long.” Xiang Ning had seen the mineral before. Although it was called meteorite ore, it wasn’t made from asteroids that landed on earth from space, but was a mineral from Azura. It was a very malleable ore, which was a necessity in aerospace manufacturing. But when it was combined with another rare mineral on Earth, it created a delightful effect: its blade was sharper than iridium.

“Hahaha, you’re from the Limit Project class indeed, you’re very knowledgeable. This is the Meteorite Blade Mk. 2, durable enough to break through a tier six beast’s defenses,” bragged Chu Long.

Long Xiaoqi’s weapon of choice was unexpected. She had eight boxes strapped to her hip, another ten blades in a pouch on her waist, and a short blade on her back.

“Hmph, what’re you looking at?”

“Uh, just curious about your weapons,” Xiang Ning answered honestly.

Chu Long wanted to speak, but Long Xiaoqi replied, “Hmph, since you’re sincere enough to ask, I’ll tell you that I’m a dual cultivator. I invented a set of combat techniques for myself. These boxes contain needles, a hundred of them per box.”

Xiang Ning looked at her, taken aback by her chattiness on the topic, which was completely different from the arrogant girl he met. After listening to her explanation, he felt that she was a genius.

“It’s just that a lot of resources are spent on them and they’re difficult to retrieve,” she complained, as if she had never had an opinion about Xiang Ning.

“May I take a look?”

“Of course.”

Long Xiaoqi took out a needle. It was very thin, and without looking closely, one wouldn’t notice that it was cone-shaped. She explained that it was easier to retrieve it afterward with that shape, and it helped with aerodynamics as well.

“Right, what about your weapon?” They both looked at him curiously, wondering what he wielded.

“Whose big metal box is this? Hurry up and take it, I can’t reach the things behind it.”

“Coming, coming.” Xiang Ning waved, hurrying forward and apologizing while he retrieved the box. Many people turned to look at him.

The box contained his Devourer, but no one thought much of it. Seeing as he looked young and sophisticated, they thought he was a spiritual cultivator. The people present were divided into those who used cold weapons, like ancient assassins, and hot weapons, who usually appeared with huge weapons in battle. One of the most common hot weapons was an assault rifle.

Seeing that 1.9-meter-long black box, they speculated that it must be quite a powerful gun. They felt safer that way, and if anyone encountered a stronger beast, they would at least get protection from this guy. Hot weapons required ammunition, but the box in Xiang Ning’s hands didn’t look like it could hold many rounds.

“Wow, that's a very big box, what’s inside it?” Chu Long curiously asked. It looked out of place on Xiang Ning’s back. Chu Long looked like he was the one that should be carrying it. Then other people wouldn’t think it was a hot weapon, but some heavier artillery.

“Guess,” Xiang Ning chuckled.

Long Xiaoqi pursed her lips. “You’re stingy, I showed you mine.”

Chu Long didn’t mind. They would know when the battle started. To be honest, he didn’t really want to know now, but looked forward to seeing it appear during battle. It excited him.

When everyone finished retrieving their weapons, the conductor appeared.

“It’s 2:21 PM right now, making it fifteen minutes until help arrives. The barrier at the A1 zone outside the train is near breakdown. I have nothing else to say, just that, once again, I sincerely request for all of you to hold out for fifteen minutes.” After saying that, he deeply bowed.

The martial artists didn’t speak. When the doors opened, they walked out, surrounding the A1 zone in a semicircle so no beasts could slip past them. The passengers of the train acknowledged their valiant efforts.

“Mama, Mama, I see big brother. He’s there, he’ll protect me, right?”

“Yeah, he’s a big hero, he’ll definitely protect you.”

Xiang Ning took the black box off his back and put it before him. Chu Long and Long Xiaoqi next to him could tell how heavy it was, because the ground beneath them shook.

“If you aren’t with the spiritual cultivators at the back, it looks like it isn’t a hot weapon. But with that weight, you aren’t carrying a rocket launcher, are you?” Chu Long mused.

The martial artists stood in front, and the spiritual cultivators at the back. Those with hot weapons had already climbed up to the top of the train and set up their weapons, but Xiang Ning was at the front.

“Didn’t you want to see it?” Xiang Ning smirked. “You’ll get a chance!” As he spoke, the Thunderclap Mastiff blasted a hole in the A1 zone barrier and the sound of a furious roar rang.

Creak....

The box was opened, revealing the eerie bioweapon, Devourer. It was 1.7 meters long, with an attachment between the hilt and blade that was glowing with a faint golden hue.

“God… damn.”

Everyone staring at MC's weapon and going 'hot damn'
