Chapter 169 I Would Rather Rest

Everyone’s expression changed when they heard what Xiang Ning said.

“Wait, wait, what did you just say? Did you completely understand every single piece of information about spatial planes? Are you sure you aren’t delusional?” Wang Jiayan almost lost his marbles. As for the book in question, it had taken him at least three months to more or less understand the gist of it, and even then it took him twelve hours a day of consistently reading it. To truly understand the book, it had taken him almost a full year to barely get through a third of it. He knew that Xiang Ning had never read that book before, and it had been only a few days since Xiang Ning had joined under the tutelage of Dong Qianyi. Even if he was a prodigy, there’s no way it would take him just a few days to understand the book, surely!

“Are you sure you didn’t just skim through it?” Wang Jiayan did not believe him at all.

Disregarding the others, Alia told them what she was thinking. “If the brain received too much information, the load would be tremendous on the brain, which would then require more energy to function. It would make sense if Xiang Ning’s brain had used up all of the energy available in Xiang Ning’s body to sustain itself.”

Everyone more or less agreed with her after hearing that. But some of them still refused to believe that Xiang Ning was that horrifying. His brain was even better than a photocopier! A machine could only record and copy data, but his brain had just digested all of that knowledge? It was even better than a supercomputer!

Xiang Ning nodded his head. “So can I recover?”

“Sure! You’ve consumed too much nutrient fluid in a short amount of time, so now you need some calorie-dense food and recovery fluid to fully recover,” said Alia.

“I have some military rations that’re packed with calories and nutrients. Let me ask my men to prepare some.” Lei Zhongyuan rubbed his bald head.

When Xiang Ning heard that he could recover, he finally relaxed. But he suddenly remembered he had no more money. “I’m out of money to pay for recovery fluids.” He almost burst into tears.

Everyone turned and looked at Dong Qianyi, who regretted pushing him too hard. Luckily nothing serious had happened. If money could save him, then he would gladly spend it.

“Don’t worry, I’ll foot the bill,” Dong Qianyi said quietly. It was merely a matter of around three hundred thousand dollars per drop, he naturally wouldn’t mind the price.

They ran another test on Xiang Ning before coming up with a plan.

Two hours later he finally had a semblance of the young man he once was after eating a lot of military rations. He still looked gaunt, though.

He looked at the recovery capsule as if it was his long-lost lover.

......

Xiang Ning’s cells were like ravenous ghosts, and he consumed almost ten million dollars worth of recovery fluid. Dong Qianyi left in a rage. But he had also managed to breakthrough and became a tier two, nine-star martial artist. He just needed another ten thousand experience points to advance to tier three. When he became tier three, he would no longer need to hide his true self. To think that he had killed so many beasts, but they only credited him for the Assassin Cat’s penis. It wasn’t even enough to purchase a single energy crystal for his Windbreaker!

“Go back and rest. Come back tomorrow so I can test you. If you lied to me…” Dong Qianyi pushed his glasses and menacingly chuckled, “you’ll definitely suffer the consequences.”

But Xiang Ning suddenly thought that if he came back tomorrow and used Comprehension on another book, didn’t that mean that he could use the recovery capsule again?

Xiang Ning revealed a sly grin.

“Oh, and I don’t need you to understand the books that fast. I believe that it’ll be detrimental to your mental strength and your brain. You don’t have to enter the dark room for two days. Go solve some equations with the rest of the team. Dong Qianyi flashed back a sly grin of his own. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re scheming. He would go bankrupt if he let Xiang Ning use the recovery capsule a few more times. Even though his salary was high, the Federation couldn’t completely invest in scientific research. There were many more places that required money.

That was why Dong Qianyi would spend a large portion of his salary on research.

“No, I think I can withstand it, master. I just need to sleep and I’ll recover. I can handle learning all that knowledge—” Xiang Ning began.

“No, you cannot.” Dong Qianyi interrupted him.

Xiang Ning tried one more time. “I love to learn, and learning makes me happy.”

Dong Qianyi chuckled as he suppressed his anger. Bastard, every time you ‘learn’ you’ll use up almost ten million dollars. Why am I the one footing the bill?

“Learning is indeed good. Lei Zhongyuan, why don’t you teach him instead?” Dong Qianyi laughed as he threatened Xiang Ning.

“On second thought, I’d rather rest,” Xiang Ning mumbled. The reason he went to the front line was to earn some Fury Points so that he could go and comprehend the knowledge, but now his master wouldn’t even let him do that. What a joke!

Just as Xiang Ning walked toward the exit, Dong Qianyi spoke softly, as if he knew what Xiang Ning was trying to do. “Go lock the door of the dark room. Don’t let anyone steal those books.”

Xiang Ning almost fell when he heard that. What do you mean someone would steal those books? At least try a more reasonable excuse!

He finally left the lab.

“Dong Qianyi, do you think he’s an alien? His capabilities far exceeded our expectations,” Lei Zhongyuan mumbled.

“I’ve checked, and he is indeed a genuine human. There’s nothing wrong with his genome, either.”

“Hmm, he could even counter my attacks,” Lei Zhongyuan almost silently said, as though he was somewhat unhappy.

Dong Qianyi thought about it before he replied, “Maybe his brain is different since he’s a dual cultivator. Not sure whether it's beneficial or not.”

“What a headache.” Lei Zhongyuan scratched the back of his head.

“Give it up, don’t think about it anymore. Since we didn’t find anything wrong at this stage, let’s just see how it naturally goes.” Dong Qianyi silently massaged his temples.

Old Dong got fooled! Hahahahahha!
