Xiang Ning cringed after he heard that. He had just randomly shouted that, but who knew it would become their war cry.
Even Wu Rui started shouting.
“Glory to mankind, victory to the Federation!”
“Glory to mankind, victory to the Federation!”
“Open the gates!”
The gates groaned open and the dark corridor appeared in front of them. Many martial artists had walked past it before, and many heroes returned through it. It was the final line of defense between the beasts and the fortress. It was large enough to allow most beasts through, but if that were to happen, it would be a fight to the death.
The corridor would either be filled with the corpses of beasts, or men.
Strong footsteps echoed through the corridor as everyone’s hearts beat strongly. Adrenaline pumped into their veins as their brains released endorphins, signaling that their bodies were ready to fight. The dying cries of beasts echoed into the corridor as they were killed by the defensive turrets of the fortress.
“Kill!” The first martial artist stood in the light and rushed forward. He was a large burly man wielding a giant ax. A tier two beast was split in half and immediately died.
“Don’t die.” Wu Rui told Xiang Ning as he rushed forward and killed a tier two Tyrant Spider.
Xiang Ning was just about to step out when someone pulled him back. It was Fang Hao.
“Big brother Fang, what’re you doing?” Xiang Ning was puzzled. They were just about to fight, what was he doing?
“You can’t go.”
“What?” Xiang Ning was even more confused. Why couldn’t he go? There’s so much experience and Fury Points to be earned outside!
Fang Hao’s lips twitched. He took out his phone and showed him the message. “You sneaked out, but your master ordered me to take you back.”
“Hell no, everyone here is fighting for the Federation and humanity, I can’t just leave. Let me kill at least ten of them.”
What do you mean ten of them?!
While it was true Fang Hao was holding him, it was very easy for Xiang Ning to break free. Using his Shadowmist Ghost Step, he immediately put some distance between him and Fang Hao. He used the terrain and hid behind a dune, then applied his disguise skill to fight a beast.
Fang Hao ran toward where he had disappeared but couldn’t find him anymore.
“That sly little bastard. To think he could run this fast.” Fang Hao was in a bit of a pickle. “No matter, at least my sister is safe in his hands.”
Hearing what he had said, Xiang Ning almost wanted to slash Fang Hao and drop his disguise instead.
“Hey, why’re you still standing there? You got shocked till you became stupid? Go and kill some beasts!” Xiang Ning roared.
It was Fang Hao's turn to be puzzled as his train of thought was disrupted, but he did go and kill some beasts afterward.
As for Xiang Ning, he slowly put some distance between him and Fang Hao. What a joker. I’ve already come out here, why should I return? He wouldn’t return until he has earned enough Fury Points. He used his Shadowmist Ghost Step and rushed into the fray. Three knives were levitating beside him as he tried to find some tier three beasts. His Mental Power was sufficient to kill a tier three beast, as long as he used enough force.
He scoured the battlefield for prey. The size of the battlefield was much larger than he had imagined. But he quickly found what he was looking for—a tier three Tyrant Spider. The squad that was subjugating it had already lost many people.
The human side didn’t engage in battle like headless flies. Instead, they would have teams that were sent to certain regions to subjugate beasts there. The characteristics of the Tyrant Spider were its perception and defense. Its eight eyes weren’t just for decoration.
The subjugation squad responsible for this region was composed of martial artists that were experienced in slaying beasts around the fortress. They were people that had fought against the beasts every week to reduce their population. But even so, they had encountered a strong battle the moment they found the tier three Tyrant Spider. They wanted to conserve their strength through a battle of attrition, but there were hundreds of them. Plus, some of their members had perished. It seemed that they couldn’t use their past experiences to fight these infected beasts. The beasts were at least three to four stars stronger.
“We can’t do it anymore! We can’t fight a battle of attrition! We need to quickly kill it and support the other squads! We need backup!”
Li Yunfei, the leader of squad one knew that the beasts were too strong, but he also knew that everyone was facing the same kind of beasts. How could they send backup? His eyes were blood-red as he roared, “Kill all the beasts! We must kill them!”
Suddenly, three knives flew past him. As a tier four martial artist, he naturally saw what they were.
“Flying knives, a spiritual cultivator is here!”
The knives took out four of the spider’s eyes and a leg.
“Is it our reinforcements?”
Li Yunfei was hopeful and killed another beast with his Mountain-Splitting Slash. But when he turned around to see who had arrived, his facial expression dropped. It was just one man, and he looked like a student. But strangely enough, his face was distorted and blurred. There’s no way he’s a student, those that have enough strength to fight against a beast with just Mental Power are all experts.
But just before he could react, the knives shot into the other Tyrant Spiders. Strangely enough, he didn’t kill them, but merely wounded them.
This was why the Federation needed spiritual cultivators. As long as there was a strong spiritual cultivator, they could disrupt the battlefield with their flying knives. Fighting against the mindless beasts would be significantly easier by then.
In just a few moments, they had already killed five of the wounded Tyrant Spiders. Li Yunfei was ecstatic and ordered his men to protect that spiritual cultivator with their lives! But just as he said that the next scene had him shocked to the core. “What kind of a prodigy is this?!”
Stab them all!
