Chapter 3617 Invoking A Sense Of Fear
Fairy Thunderblaze appeared pompous as she floated before them, her gaze falling down as though she had the upper hand. However, she shook her fan, folded it, and raised her chin.
"I won't go as far as to say that I have deciphered the main intent, but I did manage to decipher some rules that I could take advantage of. Do you want to share?"
"Unfortunately," Evelynn giggled lightly, "I'm not as smart as you to decipher other rules within a few minutes. Maybe I shouldn't have stopped you from saying the third rule, and we might have gained an unexpected advantage."
"Or you shouldn't be trusting my words. Didn't you hear me say that in the beginning?"
"True, we are indeed at the opposing intersection here."
"Indeed. We may be enemies, or we may be allies, depending on the situation."
Fairy Thunderblaze moved her sleeves, her posture elegant, "Let me share the third rule with you as a form of sincerity. If we cannot attack bystanders here and the bystanders here cannot attack us, then where do you think we will be able to use our prowess?"
"At the stairs or here."
"Indeed. Considering the stairs are testing us inheritors, and any interference wouldn't be appreciated to gauge how we do, I would say we're free to attack inheritors here."
Fairy Thunderblaze said with some a.s.surance in her voice, but Evelynn wasn't convinced.
"Then why don't you prove that by attacking an inheritor here?"
"I came with the hopes that you'll be able to test it for me."
"And to get crushed if I'm wrong?" Evelynn's lips curled with derision.
"Aha~"
Fairy Thunderblaze laughed lightly, her voice full and rich. Her smiling face behind her face seemed amused, although her eyes added to the beauty of her serene gaze.
"That would be the case if-"
She raised her hand, flipping the metal fan open as lightning climbed up from her hands, dancing across the blades of the fan before she waved her hand.
*Rumble~*
Annihilative lightning thundered and shot toward Evelynn, causing her to narrow her brows. However, the lightning made a sudden arc and traversed into the crowd, sifting through the people before it slammed on an inheritor, who just turned around as he sensed the danger.
*Bang!~*
The annihilative lightning arc slammed into that inheritor. He had just raised a defensive talisman but the talisman didn't even activate, causing him to be fried in an instant with his mouth apart as though he couldn't believe what had just happened.
His entire figure turned black, and a roasted smell whiffed across the area, causing countless magical beasts to drool. However, the onlookers were shocked. Even the inheritors on the staircase were shaken to see someone actually releasing their energy against someone else.
However, it didn't seem like they received any backlash, but the inheritor died to their attack, his soul dissipating effortlessly.
A Peak-Level Immortal King died just like that to another Peak-Level Immortal King. It was a ridiculous one-hit kill.
'No way ten levels higher'
Everyone trembled at Fairy Thunderblaze's prowess, unable to believe a Celestial Fairy was capable of this kind of power. Rather than powerhouses, it was better said they were beauties with ample power but much influence. But for the first time in their life, they saw something that made them forget themselves in awe of her beauty and prowess.
"-if I was wrong." Fairy Thunderblaze ended her sentence in a serene yet charming manner.
""
Evelynn looked solemn.
Fairy Thunderblaze's words were right. The inheritors could be attacked here as long as they weren't climbing the stairs, and she used her own life to prove it. She was unnervingly confident in her smarts, and that put a smile on Evelynn's lips to no end, as she couldn't wait to defeat such a person.
'Dammit she only showed a portion of her true prowess.' Davis inwardly smiled, 'Don't be fooled, Evelynn. Realize that she's provoking not only you but the congregation of inheritors into attacking her inside the spatial vortex because she plans to entrap than deal with you all in the trials'
He thought but obviously didn't tell Evelynn and the others since they wanted to do this by themselves.
As for her action of killing the Silver Radiant Skylark Clan's inheritor, they didn't say much because the whole point of this Candidacy was to win through any means possible.
"Die!"
As though learning from her, the inheritors on the surface suddenly began to attack each other or began to gain distance.
One of them even approached Fairy Thunderblaze, but at this moment, an Immortal Emperor from the Blazing Thunderlight Kirin Clan appeared before her and spread his hands with a daring welcome.
Seeing this scene, that inheritor got royally p.i.s.sed.
He was also from the Silver Radiant Skylark Clan. His expression churned in an unsightly manner, knowing that he can't attack a bystander just the way the bystander can't attack him, an inheritor.
If used correctly, the bystanders could take down the inheritors this way.
"Gasp~"
Suddenly, Davis realized that no one could attack him there since he was a bystander. Perhaps the only ones who could attack him were the bystanders themselves, but to the inheritors, he was completely off-limits, making him feel like he could strut off now as he dashed into the crowd.
"Don't be so angry. Your fellow clan inheritor just stood in the way of my lightning, so I apologize for accidentally killing him. However, do you think you can possibly defeat me?"
Fairy Thunderblaze waved her hand lightly, causing the Immortal Emperor Ancestor, who was guarding her, to nod lightly and move away.
Veins erupted on that Silver Radiant Skylark Clan's inheritor.
He raised his hands as silvery-blue energy swirled around him and manifested into a deadly skylark locking onto its prey, looking like he was going to launch an attack and murder her with a single move, but ultimately, he didn't make a move.
He spat on the ground, his lips moving.
"You'll remember this, witch."
He turned around and dashed towards the staircase, seemingly seeking protection from the formation there.
However, no one complained about his usage of words even though he just called a Celestial Fairy a witch. It was not because his anger was understandable. It was because Fairy Thunderblaze had just revealed something preposterous.
She used annihilative heavenly lightning, something that many didn't recognize but still heard of and seen more than they thought nowadays due to the Divine Emperor of Death using it.
It was unthinkable for any other people to be using it other than Divergents, so it suddenly begged the question of whether Fairy Thunderblaze was a Divergent or something even more, an Anarchic Divergent?
Fairy Thunderblaze simply smiled at those vulgar words.
She seemed to no longer bother to hide her status as a Divergent as she freely used annihilative heavenly lightning.
There was a quick exchange suddenly everywhere before things quietened down again. It lasted no more than five seconds, and in that brief time, ten Candidates died, excluding the Silver Radiant Skylark Clan's inheritor, who died to Fairy Thunderblaze.
[Candidates: 916]
Only four actually died on the ground from being unable to withstand the prowess of their group attack, while others managed to run towards the staircase or gain enough distance. However, six of the deceased inheritors seemed to be from the staircase.
Their corpses were then teleported away to the ground near their power.
It seems that not all inheritors were smart but even dumb, failing to realize the rules that inheritors were not allowed to battle on the staircase.
"What do you think is happening, Divine Emperor of Death?"
Fairy Thunderblaze turned to Davis and asked him personally.
Davis thought for a moment before answering, "Greed is being punished."
"" Fairy Thunderblaze's beautiful eyes flashed, "As expected of the person I acknowledge."
She began moving towards the staircase slowly.
"The weak is being protected, and the strong cannot be disrespected on the ground. The staircase is a place where one faces their fears, and no one is permitted to bring harm to them, while those who refuse to partic.i.p.ate in a test of courage by remaining outside are fair game. Those who were greedy for initial gains are punished just like those who ran to the staircase without knowing the higher you climb, the harder you fall~"
"!"
Fairy Thunderblaze's voice wasn't loud, but amidst the silence and the spotlight presence she had at the moment, her voice was like thunder, seeping into the hearts of many as it made them shudder ever so lightly.
The expressions of those who had climbed up to the fifth step turned even more unsightly, while Atsuo's expression turned grim.
He was on the sixth step, and only he knew how his sense of danger was ringing alarm bells, telling him not to go up anymore.
Back in Davis's mansion, a projection conveniently appeared above the city, allowing them to view what was going on in the Candidacy. In fact, this was happening in most places as reports of projections appearing in the skies now seem to be commonplace.
It was also in line with Davis's thinking that the World Master wanted to have as many witnesses as possible for the Candidacy.
Almost everyone from Davis's family was here to view what was going on.
At this moment, Shea pursed her lips as she held Sheria, turning to look at Davis's soul avatar.
"Fairy Thunderblaze is so strong and smart. Was I really worthy of you?"
In her eyes, Fairy Thunderblaze and Davis seemed made for each other as their power and smarts really matched. Yet, why was she chosen in Fairy Thunderblaze's stead?
If Davis had Fairy Thunderblaze as his woman, then wouldn't this so-called Candidacy be much easier?
"Yes, you are, my dear Shea. Your motherly skills were more helpful than her smarts to me and everyone else. With time, I a.s.sure you will become powerful, so don't worry."
Davis turned to look at her and chuckled with a genuine smile.
Shea's cheeks reddened as she received his praise before she returned her gaze to the projection. She remembered she voted 'yes' for Fairy Thunderblaze on that day, so she couldn't help but smile, wondering what was going on between them as they seemed to acknowledge each other but never seemed to want each other.
