There were no bystanders out in the streets, it was completely empty. Which was kind of surprising, because you would expect there to be at least some people going out drinking or something. But I guess they went to the more popular district east of this place. This was more of a cafe-centered district with some restaurants here and there.
The old man looked back as he was running with a reluctant face, and he looked around his surroundings once again. When he did, he got a large grin on his face again. He had noticed that Satos.h.i.+ was running on the roof above parallel to them, and he winked with his eyes to message Satos.h.i.+ that he knew he existed.
Satos.h.i.+ noticed the wink and made a nod to his right, as soon as Takuchu saw the nod, he understood what he meant.
I picked up the speed a bit and noticed that the old man suddenly turned to his right and I followed his directions. I was around 10 meters from the turn as I heard
"Hurry up!"
I instantly commanded my legs to run faster and I turned the corner 1 or 2 seconds after that, I saw the old man look at me in panic as he started running again. I just looked at him in confusion, nothing happened at all. The scenario was the same, so why did he just say 'hurry'?
-Something doesn't feel right, what did he do? Perhaps he did something to Sora, that b.a.s.t.a.r.d! Even though he said he wouldn't hurt her. I'm the one who's supposed to get hurt, yet how dare he!? I'm getting really p.i.s.sed, if he actually did something to her I don't know what I'll do.-
Suddenly, a furious aura radiated strongly from me and the old man noticed this. He gulped slowly in fright, it had been a long time since he had felt this type of anger directed directly at him.
Takuchu decided to take a glance back again and noticed Kenjiro speeding up and almost reaching him. A sudden wave of adrenaline jumped through Takuchu, causing him to get really frightened. The feeling was a feeling of intense stress and a sense of hurry, the feeling that he really needed to get away from there. Takuchu worried a bit for his heart's health because the stress he was going through was at a level that he hadn't felt since the younger days in the gang when he had to run away from bullets that chased him.
He turned around and increased his speed, but the sense of urgency didn't leave. Instead, it became worse. He constantly felt as though there was something right behind him, just a second away from striking him. He thought
- f.u.c.k, f.u.c.k. f.u.c.k! I want to end this mission, there's something wrong with the target! I'm really scared, and I can't even retaliate until I reach that d.a.m.n warehouse! The Boss made that order, and I will follow through. Is this what you want me to do, Boss? 'Cause I'll do it, but I just want to let you know that this isn't cool. Who am I talking to? It's not like Boss can hear me. Or maybe he can… I have no idea what his powers are, I don't think anyone's ever seen them. He always uses his subordinates for doing things. Which I'm fine with since he's still a good person and a good boss and I get a paycheck. -
Takuchu was now starting to near the destination he had been running towards for a long amount of time. His anxiety calmed down a bit once he realized this. But he couldn't relax just yet, he needed to get inside the warehouse.

I gritted my teeth in frustration, he was so close yet I was unable to collect enough strength to charge at him. Just out of my reach, the frustration grew stronger for each second that pa.s.sed. I also realized that we were nearing the warehouse, it was the lesser known one. But that ignited my soul and I ran just a bit faster
-Anami, I'm sorry. I'm about to overstep my boundaries and disobey you. I don't care anymore if anyone sees me using my powers, I don't care! They must've done something to Sora back then, she's been quiet this whole time now. Something's wrong, and I hate that they did something to her because of me! It may be a bit dangerous to enter that building, because they will probably devastate me. But that's not what I fear now, maybe I trusted them too much and now they won't actually release Sora when I 'just come'. -
"LEVEL 2.0!"
The aura immediately exerted out of me again and hit the old man like a bomb, he quickly looked back to see what was happening. When he saw the barely visible blue hue that surrounded me, he thought
-Is that Kori's ability!? Why does he have it!? WHAT!?
Not only that, what's wrong with this kid all of a sudden? He was generally chill before, but he just went insane ever since I turned that corner.-
Takuchu was now around 5 meters from the entrance that stood wide-open, just inviting them to enter. Takuchu looked behind him again with a smirk on his face, but he noticed that Kenjiro now was immediately behind him. Takuchu panicked mentally but didn't have that much time to do so because Kenjiro threw a clean hit at the center of his face.
"Harsh Reconquista"
All of the frustration that Kenjiro had built up the past couple of minutes was released in a devastating blow, making his fist rest on Takuchu's face before it finally departed. But once it did, Kenjiro witnessed something even more terrifying, the smile of an older gentleman s.h.i.+ning like a child experiencing his 10th birthday. Kenjiro focused on the person most important in this event, to make sure that she was okay.
But Kenjiro saw something else, not the Sora he was looking for. Instead, he saw a sack of potatoes, dressed up in a school uniform and a blue wig.
He lost all sense of reality at the revelation, just staring at it blankly. He thought
-I've been tricked, that's what they did at that corner! They must've switched them up there, and I fell for their trap, I'm such an idiot! After I got so irritated and everything… How stupid can you be?-
Takuchu's smile persisted as he grabbed the hand of the absent Kenjiro and pulled him with him into the warehouse with haste. They both fell onto the floor inside of the warehouse quickly, but only one of them stood up immediately and threw away the sack of potatoes. Satos.h.i.+ had already been waiting inside of the warehouse and closed the large door immediately when they entered.
All hope was lost in Kenjiro, the little hope and desire for victory that he had inside, was decimated and despair filled as he stared vacantly at the ground beneath him.
- It really is stupid to invest pride into something, this is the result you get when you fail. You lose everything you had and stop wis.h.i.+ng for success, you only wish for a status quo that's mediocre and stable. The more you invest, the more you lose… -
…
"Sora got…?"
The pink-turquoise haired girl said quietly after hearing the relatively long explanation of what had happened.
Aya nodded slowly as she reached down into her right pocket and pulled out the note she had seen on the ground earlier. They were walking on the same road as earlier, and the street was just as silent. She opened and read the inscription. She said out loud
"The abandoned warehouse next to the fisher statue… That's where they are."
Aya handed Narino the paper and continued talking
"I have to go get Anami, we need her to take some responsibility. And you all know how she is with her phone. You go ahead!"
Narino and Kanton nodded firmly like it was their duty in the military and faced forward to continue marching.
"So we go a couple of blocks straight and then turn left. Let's do this, we're gonna help Kenjiro!" Kanton said, and Narino imagined it in her head for a moment. After creating a virtual map inside of her head, Narino objected to Kanton's proposal
"No, you take a right turn."
Kanton opened the note again and read the contents before saying
"No, you take a left turn."
Narino s.n.a.t.c.hed the piece of paper out of Kanton's hand and read it again, she said
"What are you talking about!? If we go left, we just get to a bunch of restaurants and cafés by the sea!"
Kanton looked at Narino in near distraught and said
"Well partly that, but that's where the fisher statue is, and I'm really sure there's an abandoned warehouse beside it."
Narino responded while pointing at 2 o'clock
"No, the fisher statue is over there, where that fis.h.i.+ng spot is!"
Kanton got a little frustrated so he escalated the situation by saying
"You're wrong, and I'll prove it to you! Let's go in two different directions, I'll go to the left and you go to the right. If we, more accurately you, see that no one is in the abandoned warehouse, then we'll go to the other place."
Narino chuckled and commented
"I think the abandoned warehouse is doing its job correctly if no one is there."
Kanton instantly retorted with
"Shut up, bad joke and stop! Let's just go!"
Narino looked upwards in a c.o.c.ky manner and grabbed the piece of paper violently and started walking. If the piece of paper was able to, it would have definitely called some kind of abuse support hotline because of the amount of s.h.i.+t it had gone through. But as it was just a small piece of paper, it didn't have the capabilities of getting the help it needed; Making it just another offer these kinds of crimes.
But Narino didn't care about this, perhaps because no one would ever even conceive such a story, and she just marched along in the dark evening with glimmering confidence.
Kanton smacked his lips and crossed the street, but he didn't properly check the road and a car almost ran him over but managed to stop at the right moment. Kanton a small awkward hand movement towards the driver to signify that he was sorry and Kanton managed to cross the road safely. The only thing Kanton left with was a honk that ringed in his ears and grave embarra.s.sment that carved itself into his soul to forever haunt him of his mistakes.
Narino saw this and decided to capitalize on this as much as she could and ran a little bit to match their eyes. When they met, she smiled devilishly and said
"What's wrong, aren't you going to go on a rant about humanity?"
Kanton smacked his lips again and increased his speed after saying
"Leave me alone."
Narino increased her speed as well to match Kanton and condescendingly sneered while saying
"Really? I thought that was something you took pleasure in doing, a bit too often if I might add."
Kanton took the deep and heavy feeling inside of him as a means of increasing his speed, which Narino also managed to match. She delivered the finis.h.i.+ng move, a fatality as it's known to some people
"Or maybe something happened. I don't know what it could've been, maybe something as simple as checking the road? Perhaps, but that would've been gravely embarra.s.sing, right? Not being able to do something that a 5-year-old does by nature of heart, no way a high schooler would miss out on such a thing. Or would they, Kanton? Could you give me your opinion on this?"
Kanton's cheeks had progressed from a soft pink to a harsh wine red through the slaughter he had witnessed. His heart had also started to slam harder and harder against his chest, almost making him hear it in his ears. So, to protect his mental state, he ran away whilst shouting
"LEAVE ME ALONE! I'LL GET YOU BACK WHEN I ARRIVE AT THE REAL ABANDONED WAREHOUSE!"
After just a couple of seconds where you could hear the panicking steps of a mentally unstable teenager, the silence returned to Narino and the now also glimmering smile on her face to match the confidence.
She said slowly
"We'll see…"
