Chapter 1498

Chapter 1498: b.l.o.o.d.y Nailisi (Part 1)

The number of troops did not grow within Jason’s line of defense. News from the frontlines had, of course, been delivered to Jason as well. They owed him that much for the large number of weapons he had supplied.

Jason had supplied them with a large number of arrows and bolts.

Those projectiles of the Kingdom of Metatrin were explicitly crafted to take on good creatures. There was all manner of poisons on them that would critically injure the enemy even if they did not manage to kill them outright. Furthermore, it was far more challenging to deal with such injuries than to simply resurrect a dead G.o.d creature.

Saleen had also gained control of Alchemy City in secret, and mages from Alchemy City rushed to their side in droves. Being able to fight G.o.d creatures was an opportunity like no other for mages.

Everything on the G.o.ds could have been used to make magical materials. Both the Cloudflow Empire and the Kingdom of Metatrin gave silent consent to the mages, allowing them to take remains of G.o.d creatures for their own. The Kingdom of Metatrin had no intention of sacrificing too many people in early battles. Since the mages from Alchemy City were so greedy, they were the ones sent out instead.

Mages from Alchemy City were by no means weak after all, and they commanded a huge number of puppets. They had also brought large numbers of warriors with them as well.

Jason did not like the odds. A divine kingdom had G.o.d creatures numbering in the tens of billions, with over half of them capable of combat. That was a number that greatly exceeded that of warriors found in the entire Myers Mainland.

Regardless of how favorable the casualty ratio was to the humans, Myers Mainland would not be able to hold until the very end.

The only way to truly turn the tide was to charge into the divine kingdom and start tearing down the place.

That would have been dangerous but worth doing. Jason was already a level 15 mage, and there might have been level 15 G.o.ds found within that divine kingdom. Fighting someone at his level would have been one of the most brilliant moments of his life.

However, he could not simply just charge inside. Jason was not the kind who would forsake everything and everyone on his side for his own gain.

His students entrusted the entire nation to him, and he was not about to let Metatrin City fall. He saw fit to first wear down the divine kingdom’s forces at the outer fringes before doing anything else. The vanguards of the divine kingdom were too weak, and they were totally disproportionate to the legends told about them.

Jason, however, did not know that it was actually a result of the Lord of Glory’s misjudgment of Myers Mainland’s powers.

The levels at Myers Mainland had been growing too quickly, so the Lord of Glory a.s.sumed that there would not have possibly been any level 15 beings appearing in the mainland. The Lord of Glory thought that the professionals of the mainland would have stayed around level 12, given the short span of time they were allowed to grow.

He had believed that there would not have been more than ten professionals getting past level 13.

As such, there were no very powerful beings among the ranks of the divine kingdom’s army, so much so that even the angels were beings below level nine. That was not the case with the human armies.

Soldiers wearing magic armor would have sported level five combat prowess at the very least. Captains were definitely over level seven. Leaders above that rank, who commanded companies over 200 men, were at least at level eight, and there were also ones who were at level nine.

There would have been one golden grand swordmaster in a group of 1000 people or more.

The rising of powers across Myers Mainland had allowed too many talented people to advance quickly. Given how the likes of Saleen was able to get to level 14, warriors and mages who were far above him in regards of talents had an even easier time advancing.

A team of Bug Angel Warriors flew past every hour in the sky to patrol the battlefield. There were angels among the enemy, and while they were not particularly powerful, their flight abilities made them difficult to deal with.

Those Bug Angel Warriors were present specifically to intercept the angels. Alchemy factories of the Kingdom of Metatrin had to restart the production of Bug Angel Armors, whether they liked it or not. Saleen had initially intended to retire the armors, yet given the need for ma.s.sive flying units, he had to begin making them again.

The Kingdom of Metatrin was capable of summoning huge numbers of demons and imps. Even demonic spirits were able to wear the Bug Angel Armors and fly with them.

Saleen’s last hunting trip had brought ma.s.sive amounts of magic nuclei, which were then supplied to the Bug Angel Warriors for sustained flight. That was hardly surprising, as Saleen had planned things out before.

Wars were ugly and brutal. The million that the Lord of Glory had just deployed were but vanguards. He, too, knew that there were nearly a billion people that lived on Myers Mainland. He had to field a good number of G.o.d creatures if he were to kill all of them.

The ones who entered the mainland at the very beginning were only believers. Unless they had contributed in a very significant way, they would have been able to earn t.i.tles and bloodlines comparable to that of G.o.d creatures. That war was but an activity for breakneck advancement for those believers.

They could have been converted to G.o.d creatures by killing ample numbers of enemies. Those believers did not care if they had been humans or magic beasts before. They lived only to serve their G.o.d, who was everything to them.

Jason had initially intended to prolong the fight for a bit in order to let Metatrin City, Floating City, and several other locations with ma.s.sive alchemical production capacities craft ample equipment for resupply. However, Grand Duke Platinum’s plans ruined Jason’s plans.

Grand Duke Platinum rode into battle personally with his army, charging straight into enemy territory. There were thousands of mages from Alchemy City working with Grand Duke Platinum as well. The mages were the leading force in that fight. The Alchemy City mages burned through about 100 thousand scrolls in a battle that lasted little more than three hours.

The million-strong enemy force was destroyed outright. Such was the power of magic.

As for the staggering amount of 100 thousand scrolls, it was worth noting that before the war broke out, no one would have wanted to use the scrolls like that. Every single scroll cost over 200 gold coins, and burning through 100 thousand scrolls would have equated to tens of millions of gold coins being burned. Worse still, that was calculating it conservatively.

That was not to say that the Alchemy City mages were stupid. The mages were at least able to tell just how ma.s.sive the amount of G.o.d creatures there were running around out there, and they saw no need to be conservative with equipment. Their main priority was simply to keep human casualties as low as they were able to.

However, that attack had been launched too early. The divine kingdom had appeared too suddenly. While Grand Duke Platinum had been able to organize a line of defense due to his reputation, the Cloudflow Empire, in general, had not been adequately prepared for war.

The n.o.bles had only begun to finish giving the orders to mobilize at that time.

The mages were copying magic projections in a frenzy, distributing them to every city, village, and any other type of human settlements. The G.o.d was angry, and he had no intention of taking prisoners.

Myers Mainland was undergoing an ordeal that would determine its continued life or its death.

Grand Duke Platinum’s attack caused the G.o.d creatures who were tasked with deploying the vanguards to become very angry. They immediately deployed over a million troops at their enemy, charging into Myers Mainland.

Armies that were even more formidable began to emerge after the troops that were sent out the first time. After the second wave of a million-strong army came, a legion of angels appeared as well. The legion consisted only of angels of level nine and above, and there were 24000 of them.

The Alchemy City mages had no choice but to retreat to Lion City and hunker down. The divine army surrounded the entirety of Lion City. Over 20000 angels attacked the city relentlessly from above.

Rafel had to deploy. She brought the Violet Angel with her, taking the War Drum of Fear along and beating it above Lion City. All 20000 angels and more who were attacking the city were hit.

Level nine angels were still formidable enough to avoid being startled to death outright, but the Bug Angel Warriors from the Kingdom of Metatrin soon followed.

The battle was extremely b.l.o.o.d.y. In order to make up for losses of their own and not let the mages from Alchemy City win and collect all the spoils, Jason deployed a legion of demons who were all capable of flight.

They had only one job, and it was simple—eat the angels, leaving none of the bodies for the mages of Alchemy City.

That served as a warning. The reckless actions of those mages caused the divine kingdom’s forces to ramp up the tempo of the attack. It would have caused deaths to a great many civilians that were unprepared.

The flying demons took hold of angels who were injured by the Bug Angel Warriors in the sky, tearing them apart on the spot and munching on them right away. Chewing and gulping noises were heard all over the sky above Lion City, causing the mages of Alchemy City to have chills running up and down their spines.

They would not have cared about gaining anything in those moments. That warning from Jason was as obvious as it could have been. Overstep the line set by the Metatrin people again, and no one would have anything to gain. They would have had a lot to lose if that were to be the case.

The demons munched on the angels without restraint. Although the demons were unable to enhance their powers by merely devouring the angels, they were nonetheless able to absorb the purest of energies in the angels, which were then converted to their own power.

Man, it is so fun serving Lord Metatrin! Back on the demon plane, simply being able to eat magic bugs would have been a thing worth celebrating, and now, they were given the chance to eat angels.

Only about 3000 out of the 20000 and more managed to escape. Most of the angels ended up being eaten by the demons.

Bloodstained white feathers dropped all over the sky that day. The people in Lion City did not cheer at all. What they saw made them realize that there would not have been a winner to that war.

Being able to stay alive would have sufficed, as any victories would have only been temporary.

The attack of the angels caused ma.s.sive casualties, with most of them being civilians. True military officers were able to fight level nine angels. The power used by the angels was holy light of the Lord of Glory, which was not as raging as golden sword aura and was comparatively easy to defend against.

Most soldiers only sustained injuries after fighting the angels. At that moment, holy masters of the Nature Faith began to heal the soldiers.

Spreading faith in the war would have been comparatively easy. Moreover, those were holy masters of the Nature Faith, who were very adept at healing. Many soldiers who thought they would have been disabled for life ended up only having to rest for half a month after being healed by the divine arts, returning to fighting shape at a rapid pace.

Rafel came before Jason, who then said to her, “Select 100 thousand men, and when the enemy launches ma.s.s attacks like that again, do it the old-fas.h.i.+oned way. Beat the War Drum of Fear to stun them, and then…”

“But Lord Jason, that would have only caused the Lord of Glory to start developing countermeasures.” Rafel was an angel and knew that regardless of how stupid a G.o.d could be, they could not just keep doing the same thing.

“Heh, well, we’ll gamble regardless. Maybe the enemy will slow down their speed of attack. I’d only need about ten days. Just ten days and everything will take a turn for the better,” Jason answered. Rafel did not buy it. However, Jason and Saleen had different styles of command. Jason only gave orders and would have never bothered to explain the intricacies within.

Saleen was always worried that his orders would not be carried out thoroughly, and so he would have explained his strategy to those working with him.

“Lord Jason, let me in on it as well,” Nailisi said, eager to get out there.

“You would follow Rafel. You are not to do anything until you find someone worthy of your time. I will tell Saleen to kick you out otherwise,” Jason warned Nailisi.

Nailisi lowered her head and agreed to what Jason had ordered. Saleen would have definitely listened to what Jason said. If she were to get on Jason’s bad side, it would definitely be her getting the short end of the stick.

Jason found Nailisi’s expression to be rather funny. He then asked, “Nailisi, what level are you at now?”

“Umm, 14 maybe…” she replied.

“Right. Anyone above level 11, you’re free to take them on,” he said.

“Yes, Lord Jason!” Nailisi went with Rafel excitedly to select her troops. She was about to go all out. No one knew about her newfound abilities yet. So what if you’re the Lord of Glory, eh? If I see you, I’m going to break you first before everyone else!
