"Yes your Highness, thank you" Mrs. Greg bowed her head and turned to leave.
Lady Edwina walked elegantly towards her daughter's chambers, she pushed the door open and walked in. She came face to face with Mrs. Greg.
Her gaze held a look of disgust in them when she saw the unkempt woman.
"My apologies, My Lady," she said stepping aside and bowing her head. "Good evening." She greeted shakenly.
Lady Edwina didn't bother with her, she just scoffed and walked pa.s.s her to where her daughter stood.
"Mother, welcome. Good evening."
"Evening my darling," she returned her daughter's greeting with a warm smile.
"What's she doing here in your chambers?" She asked. The earlier smile that graced her smooth face disappeared instantly.
"I needed to confirm some things with her, mother." She looked at the frightened woman by the door, she sighed and said, "You may go now, I will call you again if I need anything."
"Thank you, Princess."
She scurried out the door, not waiting a second more there. Everyone was scared of the Lady Erwina, she had a way of making life difficult for every person, so no one wanted to gt on her bad side.
"Hmm, I heard you went to see your father!"
"Yes mother and as you may have heard already, its concerning the theft case that brother... "
"Prince Owen, Cyrena. He is not your brother" Lady Erwina cut her daughter's speech short.
"Mother we share the same father and so he is my half-brother."
"I do not want you a.s.sociating yourself with the likes of him."
"I know, but we cannot deny the fact that he is still my brother."
Lady Edwina rolled her eyes and sighed at her daughter. If there was one thing she was sure about her daughter, it was that it would be hard to change her daughter's mind when she was bent on something.
So she rather didn't try after that. After all, she had molded her daughter into a spitting image of herself. So the stubbornness ran deep in Cyrena.
"Come have your seat mother. It is not befitting of you to worry so much" she gestured towards the chairs in her chambers.
Both of them moved towards the chairs and sat down on it. Cyrena raised her left hand a bit towards her eye level and snapped her fingers.
Her maid came rus.h.i.+ng from her bathroom to her side. "Greetings My Lady" she bowed to greet Lady Erwina.
"Hmm." that was the only reply she gave to the young girl.
"Go to the kitchens and fetch some snacks and wine to entertain mother."
"Yes Princess," she replied her and left.
"Good riddance. Now, what was the outcome of your meeting?"
"Well, Mrs. Greg came to me and pleaded about her husband, so I thought about it carefully and went to see father. I knew at that time, Owen would be briefing father about what had happened" she paused.
"Go on," she urged Cyrena.
"At first he attacked me, saying I am interested in the kingdom's affairs," she scoffed. "There was malice in his voice but I gave him an appropriate answer. Too bad father interrupted and made me apologize."
"He did what!" She said, her eye lid flared up as she slammed her palm against the chair's handle.
If it were others, they would have been scared out of their wits already, but in Cyrena's case, her mother's outburst didn't cause her to flinch one bit. If there was anything, Cyrena had expected she would react this way. She smiled at her mother and continued.
"Needless to say, the conversation continued. Father was happy when I apologized and said he would pa.s.s judgement on the culprit tomorrow, that was when I interjected. I told him that Mr. Greg wasn't the one. At that time you needed to have seen Owen's face when I said that. It was priceless."
Her eyes beamed with an unknown laughter as she stared at her mother. "He also felt it wasn't a case a girl could handle. I gave my reason to father and he gave me the chance to prove what I said."
"That is good. You can shame that stupid son of his."
"Well, he also gave a condition."
"And that is?"
"To find the real culprit in two days."
"If you fail to meet the deadline, what would happen?"
"Then I would lose all rights to attend all council meetings."
"The nerve," her veins popped up as she clenched her fist tight, "How dare he!"
"Then if I succeed, I would earn the right to sit side by side with Owen during all council meetings."
"Okay, then if you succeed, meaning Owen failed, how would he be punished for not investigating properly?"
"I asked father the same thing and that stupid brother of mine got upset. But I said something to father, I know he would ponder on it and do the right thing when I succeed."
"And what did you tell him?"
"I trust father knows better. That was all I said and took permission to leave."
"Hmm I would let some ministers that owe me take this matter up with Bayard. He cannot ignore that Owen was wrong and almost caused harm to a citizen. It would be his undoing."
Her smile deepened as she said, "I knew you would say that mother."
"How sure are you that he isn't the culprit?" Lady Erwina asked, with a brow arched up.
