4 Chapter 4

"Charles, what's that book about?" I asked him.

"It's just full of random facts about nature," he said. He closed his book and set it beside himself. He looked at me and said, " You wanna go down to the pub?"

"Sure"

Downstairs, the pub was still empty. People must have been informed about me. We sat down at a booth on the left and split the whiskey I had earlier into two cups. We raised our gla.s.ses, and each drank our entire cups in one gulp. We slammed our cups on the table and laughed.

"Hey, Charles you still haven't take your cloak off yet," I said.

"Oh, yeah. I forgot about it." He replied. He untied the string and let the cloak fall. He was only wearing a blue vest and white dress pants. I could see his torso and wings that were slightly bigger than mine. I stared at him. "Umm, Akila. You okay?"

I just realized I was staring at him, "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine."

Charles laughed. He grabbed the bottle and filled our cups up again. We sat and drank for hours. Still, we weren't getting drunk. We talked and laughed.

It was midnight. We had fallen asleep in the pub. Our heads were laying on the table. Suddenly I perked up, awake and feeling that something wasn't right. I left the booth and looked out the window. I could see the pub owner leading a group of armed guards to the pub. I left the window and ran to Charles. I shook him with all my force. He lifted his head, "Akila, What the h.e.l.l."

"We need to go! Now!" I said in hushed, but urgent tones.

"What?"

"Look!" I said as I pointed to the window. Charles stood up and looked out the window.

"s.h.i.+t! We need to run!" He grabbed my hand and pulled me to the back of the pub. He found the door and opened it. We ran outside and didn't stop until we were at least a few buildings from the pub. Charles still had my hand. He looked back and saw the guards walk into the pub. "Who are those people?" He questioned.

"Well Judging from the crests on their backs, they're from the Kingdom of Miniro," I answered.

"Isn't that where you escaped from."

"Yeah, they must be looking for me"

Charles had a tighter grip on my hand, "Then we need to leave this town. Now!" He started running, pulling me behind him. I could see his wings beating together to lift us off the ground.

"Charles don't try to fly. If you do they will see us." I was too late. He had lifted off the ground with me in his grasp. "Charles!" I looked down and saw the guards looking up at us. One of them was readying a bow. He released and I felt a stabbing pain in my back. "AHH, f.u.c.k!"

" Akila, G.o.d d.a.m.n it."

He dropped to the ground and helped me stand as he pulled the arrow out of my back. I winced and felt my blood run down my back. Behind me, I could hear the running footsteps of the guards.

"Charles, I left my weapon at the pub. I might be able to summon it so you can use it."

"Just don't strain yourself." He said.

"Akuis Domnh," I said as I raised my hand. Immediately my scythe appeared in my hand. "Charles, here use this," I said as I held it out to him. He took it and then helped me to sit against a tree. He stood in front of me prepared for a fight. I started muttering a healing spell to heal my back. The guards stood in front of us.

"Akila DarkBrother! Surrender or we will have to dispose of you by orders of the king of Miniro!"

" You'll have to go through me first!" yelled Charles. He ran at the guards, swinging my scythe.

I sat by the tree, almost healed, watching the fight. I saw Charles kill two of the guards. The last guard overpowered Charles. He tossed the scythe to the side and pushed Charles to the ground. I finished healing myself. I stood up and ran to my scythe. I grabbed it as the guard was raising his sword to stab Charles. I lifted my scythe and cut his head clean off. His head fell to the side and his sword fell as well. Charles crawled backward and stood up.

"Charles, are you okay?" I asked him.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm good."

"I think it's safe to fly now," I said.

Charles nodded and shot off into the sky. I readied myself and went to the sky to meet him.
