Once Mingyue was sure that the plant Xiao Mi found was indeed the herbs they were looking for, Mingyue took out her notebook. There was a map of the mountain between the pages. Mingyue jotted down something on the map and her journal.
"Is there anything that I can help you with?"
Mingyue looked up with a jolt. She was too engrossed on studying the herbs that she forgot that Yang Yun was with her. A slight blush crept on her face. Mingyue shook her head and said, "I'm fine."
Yang Yun let out a sigh, knowing that his fiance had forgotten about him momentarily. Once Mingyue had her interest in studying a herb, everything around her seems to fade away.
"In that case, you should stay with Xiao Mi quietly while I look around." Yang Yun said.
Jiang Mingyue nodded. "You go first. Don't worry about me."
Yang Yun frowned at her carefree att.i.tude, while he was worrying that something might happen to this girl while he looked around. He turned to Xiao Mi and their gaze met.
The black cat stared at him for a while before he meowed. Then, he blinked lazily and looked away.
Yang Yun felt the corner of his mouth twitched. Why does it feel like the black cat was looking down on him? It must be his imagination.
He stood there quietly, observing Mingyue and the area around them. Once he was sure that there was no danger, he jumped up the higher ground to scout the area.
From up the tree, he could see Mingyue was digging the soil around the herbs carefully. Xiao Mi, who was beside her was playing around. Soon, Mingyue stood up and headed under a shady tree. She squatted down to study something she found. He guessed that Mingyue had found another herb to study.
Yang Yun descended the tree and headed towards the river. He took out his flask and filled them with water. Then, he turned around to where Mingyue was.
When he arrived, Mingyue was busy digging another plant from the ground. The black cat meowed when he saw him.
Mingyue looked up when she heard Xiao Mi's warning. Her lips curved into a smile. "Yang Yun! You're back!"
"What are you doing?" Yang Yun cast a glance towards the herbs Mingyue had studied before he left.
"I found ginseng! I'm guessing that this ginseng would be a few hundred years." Mingyue said excitedly. Finding ginseng under the fallen leaves was a miracle!
"That's good." Yang Yun said. He took out the water flask and handed it to Mingyue. "But first, drink some water."
Mingyue drank the water obediently before she continued to dig the soil carefully with a trowel. After a while, she stopped to look at Yang Yun with a frown. "Yang Yun."
Hearing Mingyue calling his name softly, Yang Yun's lips curved into a smile. From her tone, he could guess that she had a request from him. "What?"
Mingyue lifted her right hand. "I love this thumb ring you gave me, but it can be inconvenient for me to dig around the soil, with this."
Yang Yun tilted his head sideways. "So, you don't like it?"
Jiang Mingyue frowned. It seemed that he had misunderstood her. "That's not what I meant," she said. "I'm worried that the ring might slip off my thumb." She slid off the ring from her thumb to demonstrate how easy it will be for her to lose the ring. "Next time, find me a thread so that I can hang it around my neck. I don't want to lose this ring accidentally."
Yang Yun laughed and nodded. "Alright. Next time, I will find something to help you hang the ring around your neck."
