Mingyue rapped her knuckle on the door and said, "Sister, why are you still in your room? Let's wait downstairs. Mom said the guests should be arriving soon."
Lin Tian Yu turned to the door and looked at Mingyue as if she had found her lifesaver. "Mingyue!"
Jiang Mingyue was surprised when her sister pounced into her out of the blue. "Sister, what's wrong?"
Noticing that she might have acted too impulsive, Lin Tian Yu retracted her steps. "Well, did you say that Yang Yun has arrived?"
"Not yet. But they should arrive soon."
Lin Tian Yu paused to look at the left and right. Then, she pulled Mingyue into the room and shut the door. "Xue Yi Ming said he'd be coming as well."
"Un. I know," Mingyue nodded. "Yang Yun told me last night. Mom said, dad only decided to stay home once he heard that Brother Xue is coming as well."
Hearing her sister's words, Lin Tian Yu began to panic again. How was it that she was the last person to know that Xue Yi Ming would be coming as well?
"Hey," Mingyue grabbed her sister's wrist to stop her from walking around. "What's wrong with you? Why are you walking around like a headless chicken?" Her brow furrowed once a thought crossed her mind. "Why do you start panicking once you heard that Brother Xue is coming as well? Did you get into another fight with him?"
Lin Tian Yu stared at Mingyue's face and hesitated. She realized that she had not said anything to her sister about what happened between her and Xue Yi Ming.
"That's not it," Lin Tian Yu lowered her head to avoid Mingyue's gaze.
"Sister, what's wrong? What did Brother Xue tell you? You're acting very strange."
"Well, I never get the chance to tell you this," Lin Tian Yu pulled Mingyue to sit on the bed. "On the night that you fainted," she paused and bit her lips, making Mingyue more anxious. "I sort of told Yi Ming that I liked him."
Mingyue blinked as she stared at her sister. For a few seconds, she had thought that her hearing might be deceiving her. Mingyue had long known that her sister liked Xue Yi Ming. But instead of telling him about her feelings like a reasonable person would do, her sister would try and pull a few childish tricks, such as dating another man, to test Xue Yi Ming's feelings towards her.
In other words, her sister, Lin Tian Yu, can be a coward once it comes to the heart matter. How was it possible that her sister dared to tell Xue Yi Ming that she liked him.
Mingyue suddenly recalled Yang Yun's words to her last night about Xue Yi Ming trying to reduce the impact of his news, and she did not know whether she should laugh.
Noticing Mingyue's lack of response, Lin Tian Yu started to panic. "That Xue Yi Ming called earlier and said that he intended to tell our parents that we're dating."
Mingyue gasped. It took her a few seconds before the information reached her brain. When Mingyue looked at her sister's timid look, she bit back her laugh and pretended to be angry. "You're dating Brother Xue, and you didn't tell me? Am I still your sister?"
"You fainted for a few days. I was worried, and then it just slipped through my mind." In the end, Lin Tian Yu had no choice but to tell her sister what happened between her and Xue Yi Ming the other night. "Mingyue," Lin Tian Yu pulled her sister's sleeve. "What should I do?"
"What else can you do? Let's go downstairs and wait for them to arrive." Jiang Mingyue sighed with helplessness when she saw the way Lin Tian Yu keep twirling her fingers. "Brother Xue liked you for years, and I think that since both of you have a feeling for each other, then why would he waste your time? Sister, Yang Yun, and I separated for years, and I understand that feeling. If you like him, then don't worry. Just follow your heart and grab onto your happiness."
Lin Tian Yu felt a bit relaxed at Mingyue's words. A few seconds later, she started to tense again. "Mingyue, do you think, dad will kill us both today?"
…
When the two sisters went downstairs, both Yang Yun and Xue Yi Ming arrived as well. At first, General Lin planned to stay in his study but was dragged out by Mother Lin to receive the guests.
In the end, General Lin obediently listened to his wife and decided to observe the boy that her daughter had taken a fancy to. Although Mingyue was adopted not too long ago, General Lin really liked her. Mingyue was someone filial and, more importantly, knew how to please and accompanying him to play chess once in a while.
He really could not understand how was it that someone as good as her daughter would like Yang Yun. Although Yang Yun was polite every time he saw him, General Lin did not have a good impression on Yang Yun, just because Yang Yun had long hair. A good soldier will always keep his hair short and tidy.
When Yang Yun walked through the door and greeted him, General Lin only responded to him once his wife gave a sharp jab to his waist. In front of his wife and his two daughters, he had no other choice but to act politely. At least the Xue's family son came as well, and they could chat a bit on Xue Yi Ming's old man.
Seeing her husband's childish act, Mother Lin chose to chat with Yang Yun lest he felt awkward. Mother Lin had a good impression on Yang Yun. She thought that Yang Yun was a very polite kid, and he had those traits that she has rarely seen in most kids their age, for example, the way Yang Yun would talk to the elders.
What's important was that Mother Lin could see from the way Yang Yun looked at her daughter that he really loved Mingyue, and through his small act, Mother Lin could see that Yang Yun pampering act towards her daughter.
As a parent, of course, Mother Lin would be satisfied as long as her daughter could find a man who loved and cherished her.
