161 Running Away From Responsibility

Once the Crown Princess heard the news that Yang Yun had returned with Chief Ye, she went to visit them. The group was conversing about Yang Yun's training with Chief Ye when Lu Wei walked in with a dark expression on his face. He was dressed casually, and his silver mask was in his hand. A question popped inside her head as the Princess noticed that something was not right.

"Why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be in Qian Rong?" Princess Lingchen asked.

It was only a few days ago when she received news that the Emperor of Qian Rong died after his mother used him as a s.h.i.+eld as they tried to escape the palace. At this time, shouldn't the Prince Regent stayed in Qian Rong to control the situation? Why was he in Da Cheng, traveling incognito?

"Crown Princess Lingchen," Lu Wei clasped his hand and greeted her. "You're here too."

"Is the situation in Qian Rong's better?"

The Prince Regent hesitated before he answered, "I don't know. The ministers will think of something to resolve the issue."

Princess Lingchen watched him with disbelief. This was her first time seeing someone shrinking away from his responsibility.

Chief Ye chuckled at her grandson, and then, she turned to the Princess. "Your Highness, please do not mind my grandson. He had moved his chess piece carelessly and lost."

The Crown Princess had a puzzled expression on her face. When she looked at Lu Wei, that man had his head lowered. Therefore, she could not see his frustrated face.

"This brat," Chief Ye scoffed. "He decided to nurture his nephew to be the next ruler of Qian Rong. When the boy was older enough, he wanted to step down as Prince Regent and pa.s.s down the throne. Who knew that his mother would pull up something stupid and got them both killed."

"Grandmother," Lu Wei let out a long sigh.

"What grandmother? Didn't I warn you that your plan was too stupid? Did you listen to me?"

Lu Wei decided that it would be better if he did not say anything. Thinking about the situation in Qian Rong gave him a headache. He did not want the throne in the first place. He had thought that his plan would work, but now that his nephew had died, there was no one left but him. Lu Wei had no other choice but to ascend the throne.

Right now, Lu Wei had pushed the responsibility to the Prime Minister while he ran away to Da Cheng. That old Prime Minister should be ecstatic as he had given him the throne, but the old man was too upright. He knelt beside the hall for a whole day and begged him to retract his words.

Seeing that the old man's body was too frail, Lu Wei had no other choice but to retract his words. He was not that heartless to watch the old man continue to beg. Soon, he escaped from Qian Rong with a note to the Prime Minister that he was going away for a few days to think things over.

"Since you were brave enough to make such move, then you have to be responsible for your action, Stop running away from your responsibility," Chief Ye reprimanded her grandson. "Once the ritual is over, Wei Wei, you should return to Qian Rong and deal with your problem."

"Grandmother, I know," Lu Wei said before his grandmother would continue to nag him. "Aren't I'm here to help you with the ritual? Didn't you say that I should learn things from you? Once Yang Yun departed, I will return to Qian Rong."

Chief Ye nodded. After a while, Yang Yun entered the room, followed by Jiang Xiao Tian and an elder from the tribe. Once Yang Yun saw the people in the room, he immediately clasped his hand and greeted his guests. "Greetings, Crown Princess. Greetings, Prince Regent."

Lu Wei's expression went several shades darker at Yang Yun's greetings.

"Don't be mad," Yang Yun said to Lu Wei. "You were appointed as Prince Regent of Qian Rong not long ago. How can I be impolite and not address you as such?"

After staying and training with Lu Wei in Sui Country for years, Yang Yun's and Lu Wei got closer. The two of them had the same timid traits, but as they have been together for a long time, they could talk and joke around like brothers.

"Stop speaking nonsense," Lu Wei said to Yang Yun. "It would be better if you can come up with an idea to help me. Wait. Maybe I should come with you to look for your wife?"

A small smile appeared on her lips as Princess Lingchen watched the two men bicker back and forth. It was good to see that Yang Yun was better than the last time she had seen him. Mingyue would be happy to know that her husband did not wallow into sadness for a long time.

A pain poked into her chest as she thought about her missing cousin. It has been more than five years since Mingyue disappeared. Back then, when the Princess was together with her cousin, they would often joke around like Yang Yun and Lu Wei.

"You two be quiet," Chief Ye said. She finished conversing with the elder and turned to look at the two men. "Arguing like small boys in front of the Crown Princess, have you two got no shame?"

Quickly, both Lu Wei and Yang Yun stopped. They stood up straight behind Chief Ye as the old lady's expression turned serious.

"The auspicious time to open up the portal will be in two weeks, around noon. In a few days, Yang Yun and the others will go with me to the west. We need to check and test everything before the time come," Chief Ye explained. She looked at everyone present in the room before she continued, "Now sit down. I need to brief on what will happen on that day. I will not allow for a mistake. One mistake, and Yang Yun will be stranded in the portal forever."
