Chapter 233 - Reliable Husband

So on the first day of Xiu Mei's return to her post as the emperor's eunuch, she was instantly promoted as the empress. She wasn't exactly sure how to feel about it.

She wondered how they would react if they knew that they are already married ah…

After dropping off Lu Qiang at home, Xiu Mei and Lu Chen hastily went to the military hospital after receiving a call from her father that their eldest brother finally woke up. He was already resting when she got there, and they are still waiting for the test results.

"I'll do that." Lu Chen took the knife and the orange from her hands when she was about to prepare some orange juice for her brother to drink as soon as he wakes up.

"It's fine, it's not that hard." She tried to s.n.a.t.c.h it back from him but failed.

"Wife, I can't bear to tire you out. And you're probably tired from work today so I would like it if you take a rest on the sofa for now, okay?" Lu Chen coaxed her.

Xiu Mei could only listen to him and sigh as she walked back to the sofa to watch her eldest brother's sleeping figure. Ever since she started relying on her husband, she realized she was getting easier and easier to be coaxed by him every day.

She silently feared her days as his secretary. Lu Chen wasn't originally the type to skip on his work but observing his performance these days… she glanced at his backside suspiciously.

Xiu Mei thought, she could slightly understand now why they say that having office romance is not a good idea.

"I still have an important appointment to attend. Will you both be okay staying here? What about Qiang'er?"

He was expressing his concern with what happened to his daughter yesterday when he was told that someone was somehow able to trespa.s.s in the military hospital and almost harmed his daughter.

"We'll be fine, Dad. I'll stay here with her and the nanny would watch over Lu Qiang for us tonight." Lu Chen answered his father-in-law that a.s.sured Xiu Mei's Dad.

"That's a.s.suring then. Your second brother wouldn't be able to come tonight and tomorrow since he also had to attend some important schedule so I'll count on you for tonight then." He patted his son-in-law's shoulders and walked over to his daughter.

He sat beside her and lightly rubbed her head just like how he always did when she was young.

"I know you might be quite anxious right now. Don't worry too much about your mother and brother, and always remember to take care of yourself first. Remember, you're already a wife and a mother. You can rely on your husband when you have concerns, and you have to take care of yourself for your son. They're the family you have to prioritize now, so don't worry too much about us. Alright?" Xiu Gu Ren's patiently uttered to her in a low voice. Amongst his three children, it was this precious daughter of his that he worries the most. She grew up too quickly under their shelter, and they always failed to protect her causing her to have wounds in her heart.

Xiu Mei paused before nodding obediently listening to her father's words.

Her father is right. She was too anxious about the continuous accidents unfolding within her family, that she kept forgetting that she also has her own family to worry about now. She glanced at her husband that returned to juicing the orange and smiled gently.

"Dad, I know. Because my husband's very reliable."

If all of this happened when she was alone, she knew that she wouldn't be able to stay as strong as she was right now. She would surely act as if she's fine and hide her true thoughts from her family trying to adjust by herself.

But because she had such a reliable person to lean on, she wasn't as scared as she thought she would be and she didn't feel alone. Xiu Mei truly felt lucky to have him as her husband and that he is always willing to be there despite her flaws and shortcomings that he discovered after they got to know each other deeply.

After her father left for work, Xiu Mei called home so Lu Qiang wouldn't wait for them to go home tonight. Her brother didn't awaken throughout their s.h.i.+ft at that time but all of his results were better than before. They eventually went home after their Xiu family's butler arrived at the hospital to change s.h.i.+fts with them.

It was already past 3 am when the two of them got home. Lu Chen knew that his wife was already tired so even if he really wanted to, he didn't dare to tire her out even further this time.

Forget it, he'll just add some interest for her punishment ah. He thought while hugging his wife in his arms before they went to sleep.

The next morning, Xiu Mei was not able to escape from Lu Chen's resolve to punish her.

"What are you doing?"

Xiu Mei's instincts screamed danger as she stared at the grinning guy standing in front of the bathroom door.

"Going in to take a bath, of course." Lu Chen answered suddenly flas.h.i.+ng a gentleman smile on his face that made Xiu Mei felt even more in danger. She subconsciously took a step back and tried to avoid him.

This guy was clearly planning something else!

"Oh, then I'll just go outside and cook Lu Qiang's lunch first."

But before she could even take a step, she found herself suspended in the air being a princess carried by her husband.

Xiu Mei already had an answer in her heart as to what this guy was planning to do.

This b.a.s.t.a.r.d!! What was he trying to do so early in the morning!?

"I thought you said you were gonna take a bath first!!" She grabbed the doorframe before she could be brought even further into the bathroom by this rogue.

Lu Chen lowered his head and pecked her lips before speaking.

"I never said I was going in alone."
