Chapter 128 - Let Me Go?

"Mei'er!" Her Grandma Yu roared.

"When I read the file, I… I faintly remember something that I missed before. I'm not sure if it was just my hallucination since I was still being treated and all but when I escaped from the hospital to go to Ying Yue's funeral, a man helped me out." Xiu Mei held her head as she tried to recall all the things from that day.

When she learned that the possibility that the Ying family were behind her attempted kidnapping recently and the attack on her father, somehow, she suddenly remembered that voice.

It was there as soon as she arrived at the funeral. She was barefooted with blood and all, but there was this guy who helped her enter the funeral home that day. It would've been impossible for Xiu Mei to enter that funeral home since it was a private one and with her terrible appearance that day, the guards at the front wouldn't have allowed her to go past the door at all.

She was sure that her family didn��t investigate that at all since she didn't find any a.n.a.lysis from that day. Back then, she was very sensitive and vulnerable that her entire family would always monitor her.

So now that she refreshed all her memories from the terrible event, she only realized just now that it was weird that some random man would actually help her out to let her on that day.

But since she was still in the state of shock that day, she was too out of it to remember the face of that man. She could faintly remember that voice, but it was only bits and pieces. She wasn't even sure if she'd really seen his face. If by putting her to sleep could help her remember the memory from that time, maybe, it would be another piece of the clue to start with the investigation again.

"It's all bit and pieces but somehow, somewhere in my mind, I knew I know that voice. I thought it was familiar but I couldn't remember it at all, which was weird. If I knew that person, I would've recognized or remembered him even for a second, but it was like uh, like the memory was buried somewhere in my memories. Like someone kicked it under the rock so I never bothered to look for it." She explained to them why she suddenly decided to do so.

Especially the fact that hypnosis isn't really a common thing done just for an investigation. The only thing that'll probably make it legal for her are the facts that, one, Doctor Lee will have the patient's consent to allow him to do it, and second, her background is a little bit special. Since she belongs to a military and political family, they considered her kidnapping as something related to the enemies of the two families.

Lu Chen read his wife's expression and knew that Xiu Mei was now really ready to face the nightmare she had been trying to forget for the past ten years. Since that is what she decided, then he will certainly support her decision.

"As long as you'll be fine, I'll support you no matter what." He agreed.

Xiu Mei smiled thankfully while looking at her husband that listened and supported her decision.

"Thank you." She mouthed to him. Then she turned towards her grandparents that looked upset and distressed after hearing what she said.

She understands their concerns because if they didn't, she wouldn't be the person she is right now. She knows that all this time, her family was supporting her decisions unconditionally despite their worries.

Back then when she decided to stop her treatment, and when she made her resolve to live separately from them. Then when she chose a completely different path and bravely took on that path without anyone's help, she knew it was all the results of their love and care for her.

If they were stricter with her, they wouldn't have let her do all those things. Perhaps, Xiu Mei would have become a different version of her current self right now.

"Grandpa, Grandma," She showed them a determined smile as she continued, "I'm ready now. I… I'm ready to heal the scar that never mended in the past ten years."

"Mei'er…" Her Grandma echoed weakly.

Xiu Mei stood up from her seat and knelt between her grandparents.

"I want to help all of you find the answers that we've been looking for so long. So let me do this."

"But it will be painful, can you take that?" Grandpa Yu answered.

Because the memory Xiu Mei wanted to recover was her best friend's funeral.

Xiu Mei took a deep breath before admitting the reality and the facts.

"All this time, I've been living in so much pain and waiting for time to heal me but that never came. The pain never went away and continued to worsen, and right here," She placed her hand on her chest. "It never turned numb despite suffering for so long. This time, it wouldn't be any different if I have to relive that day at all. So maybe, the only thing to make this pain go away is to never run away from it, isn't it? Maybe it was fate that is telling me that I'll be facing this sooner or later."

"So please, let me go?" She begged.

Her grandparents turned silent as they solemnly examined her. The two elders looked at each other before sighing. This time, it was her grandpa who responded to her.

"I understand. I'll talk to your parents about it first, then we can proceed with your plan."

Xiu Mei gasped at first before her mouth curled into a smile. She almost jumped to hug her Grandpa.

"Thank you so much, Grandpa! Thank you!"

"Thank you, Grandma! I promise that I won't let you down."

Then she kissed them both on their cheeks. Her grandma patted her back as she a.s.sured her.

"Just be healthy and well is enough for us."

"I promise I will."

After that serious conversation, Xiu Mei's and Lu Chen's food was finally served. Xiu Mei advised the butler to bring the food to Lu Qiang who was downstairs. The four of them resumed their chat with Lu Chen continuously being examined by her Grandfather.

Lu Chen would always pa.s.s his questions with flying colors in the end though. He was very determined to get the old man's approval even if he and Xiu Mei are already married.

After dinner, the family of three stayed on the Xiu Mansion for the night since tomorrow is still a weekend. Lu Qiang slept with two elders for tonight since it was her Grandpa who insisted.

But as soon as Xiu Mei arrived at the door of her room, she finally realized the thing she should worry about. She completely forgot that in their home, she and Lu Chen was sleeping separately but her family wasn't aware of this arrangement. So now, she and Lu Chen didn't have any other option but to share the same room tonight.

"My G.o.d…" She can only sigh right now. d.a.m.n it, her mind wasn't prepared for this ah!

But it's not like she can let Lu Chen sleep in a guest room. Her parents would surely get suspicious of their relations.h.i.+p ah. What kind of husband and wife sleeps in separate rooms?

Xiu Mei finally entered her room with Lu Chen following behind her. Her first thought was, is her room clean? It would be embarra.s.sing if Lu Chen sees it messy ah.

Thankfully though, her room was being well maintained even though she wasn't staying here anymore.

The two awkwardly stood by the door while avoiding each other's gaze. Though Xiu Mei was the one who made a quick escape first.

"I would like to retire early tonight so I'll shower first." Then without looking back, she quickly rushed towards her bathroom. After locking it, she raised her head and saw herself in the mirror.

She looks like a blus.h.i.+ng idiot ah! So embarra.s.sing!

And her heart is palpitating so fast because of nervousness. d.a.m.n it, she couldn't stop her mind from imagining what could possibly happen later on.

The memories of when he was kissing her flashed in her mind. She instantly blushed red feeling slightly panicked. She almost pulled her hair because she didn't even know what to do.

My G.o.d, why is she suddenly having such pervert thoughts ah?!

Xiu Mei ran towards the sink and washed her face in an attempt to get a grip of her senses. After cooling down, she started showering and changing since Lu Chen still needs to use her bathroom next.

Xiu Mei got out of the bathroom while rubbing her hair with a towel. As soon as she stepped out the door, she saw Lu Chen standing while holding a red silk nightgown in front of him.

The first thing that flashed into Xiu Mei's mind when she saw that was a couple's wedding night with all the bright red decorations and the bride and groom wearing red attires.
